Join us for Week 3 of our Plein Air Painting Series at Three Leaf Farm in Lafayette, CO, where we’ll focus on mastering the technique of atmospheric perspective while painting the rolling meadow with wild grasses and a distant tree line. This class is perfect for all skill levels—whether you’re a beginner just starting or an experienced artist seeking to refine your skills. You can attend this class as a standalone experience or continue your journey through the entire series.

Session 3: The Meadow – Atmospheric Perspective & Open Spaces

In this session, we will dive into the principles of atmospheric perspective, a key technique for creating depth and dimension in landscape painting. The open meadow setting is ideal for practicing color gradients, soft edges and light and shadow. You’ll learn how to suggest depth and distance, while capturing the vastness and atmosphere of the land. The class will focus on bringing layers of depth to your landscape, creating a balanced composition of open space and distant objects.

Objectives:

• Understand the principles of atmospheric perspective and how they affect the appearance of distant objects.

• Use soft edges and color gradients to suggest depth and distance in your landscape.

• Capture light, shadow, and the mood of an open space like a meadow.

• Experiment with sky painting techniques to create a dynamic and expansive atmosphere.
