Our Workshops

Introduction to Herbal Medicine
This workshop introduces participants to the basics of herbal medicine. Discussion will include a brief history of herbalism, general information about a selection of locally available herbs, conditions that can be treated with herbs, and a general overview of how to harvest, preserve, and make medicine using the plants. This class runs for about 2.5 hrs. $50 per person, minimum $250, max 15 people

Making Medicine: Teas, Tinctures, and Syrups
This hands-on workshop teaches participants how to use herbs, both fresh and dried, to make teas, tinctures, and syrups. Participants will have the opportunity to do a short herb walk at the farm, and if seasonally available, will harvest a small amount of fresh plant material to use to make tinctures. Dried materials will be used to make herbal infusions and the class as a whole will make a batch of elderberry syrup, with each participant being able to take a small bottle home. This class runs for 2.5 hrs. $65 per person, $275 minimum, max 12 people

Making Medicine: Oils and Salves
This hands on workshop explores how to make your own medicinal and beneficial oils and salves using both fresh and dried plants. Class will include a brief herb walk around the farm, discussion about plants that are commonly used for medicine, and an explanation of some of the pros and cons of different types of carriers. After a demonstration of how to make the medicines, participants will have the opportunity to make their own to take home. During the class, we will also make a group batch of Herbal Healing Salve, and each participant will be able to take a jar of that home.
This class runs for 2.5 hrs. $65 per person, $250 minimum, max 12 people

Making Jams and Jellies
Making homemade jams and jellies is a great way to preserve your own fruits, and prepare for the winter. There’s something really satisfying about knowing how to preserve food and follow in the footsteps of our ancestors. This class is suitable for ages 10 and up, with a maximum amount of students at 8. Private workshops can specify what kind of jam they’d like to make in advance and each participant will be able to take home a jar of jam.
This class runs for 2 hrs. $65 per person, $250 minimum, max 8 people

Pickling and Fermentation
Like jams, pickling is a great way to preserve the harvest and is a skill any home gardener or cook should have. Easy, fun, and hands-on, this workshop goes through the entire process of picking cucumbers and peppers, and discusses the benefits of pickling and fermentation. Each participant will take home a jar of delicious homemade pickles.
This class runs for 2 hrs. $65 per person, $250 minimum. Max 8 people.

Private Medicinal Herb Walk
Join certified herbalist and Three Leaf Farm owner Sara Stewart Martinelli on a leisurely walk along the Coal Creek and through both the cultivated and wild areas of the property to explore the many beneficial herbs and flowers that grow at the farm. Learn about folklore and myth as well as traditional and medicinal uses of these plants. This walk lasts about 1 hour. $25 per person. $100 minimum, max 20 people.

Creating a Medicinal Herb Garden
Spring is the perfect time to start seeds for your gardens.  In this workshop, participants will learn about 12 medicinal plants that grow easily in the Colorado foothills.  A brief discuss about how to plan a garden will be followed by information about the herbs themselves, and how to use them to make medicine for yourself and your family. Participants will review how to cultivate, harvest, and process the plants, and will get a general outline about how to make teas, tinctures, and oil. Each participant will have the opportunity to plant a variety of seeds to take home with them as well.
This workshop lasts about 2 hours. $65 per person. Minimum $250. Maximum 12 people

Tea 101: Learning the Basics of Tea
This workshop explores the different styles and types of the world’s most popular beverage, Tea! Learn the differences between Black, Oolong, Green, White and Puerh tea. Discussion will include a brief history of the tea trade, and will explore the different tea growing regions and the various processing and production methods. Participants will have an opportunity to taste each style of tea as the workshop progresses.
This workshop lasts about 2 hours. $50 per person. $200 minimum, maximum 12 people.

Herbal Tea Blending
In this fun and interactive workshop, participants will learn the medicinal properties of about 20 different common and safe herbs, and will have the opportunity to make their own blend of herbal tea from a selection of dried herbs. Discussion includes how to match flavors and properties of the herbs, how to create effective formulas, and the difference between a medicinal infusion and an everyday tea.
This class takes about 2.5 hrs. $65 per person. Minimum $250. Maximum 12 people

The Natural Homestead: Making Natural Products for the Home
Many people are looking for safe and natural alternatives to the endless supply of chemicals that we use in our every day lives. This workshop is a fun and hands-on experience to learn how to use natural products to clean your home and care for your family and animals. From basics like an orange vinegar cleaning solution, to furniture polish and rug deodorizer, this workshop provides creative alternatives to the chemical cleansers that are so commonly used.
This class takes about 2.5 hrs. $65 per person. Minimum $250. Maximum 12 people

Introduction to Horsekeeping
Have you always wanted to learn more about horses and how to care for them? This mini workshop offers a unique opportunity to be introduced to horsekeeping on a personal level. Learn the basics about how to handle horses, horse safety, grooming, feeding, housing, and health. Participants will be able to both groom and handle the horses. All students will be required to sign a waiver. Suitable for ages 8 and up, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
This workshop lasts about 2 hrs. $50 per person. Minimum $200. Maximum 6 people.

Magical Herbalism: Folklore and Witchcraft
For centuries, people have used herbs, roots and flowers for all kinds of medicinal and spiritual purposes.  Imbued with meanings, each plant is reputed to carry it’s own vibrations and spirit.  Plants can support us internally as medicine, or externally, by drawing certain energies and vibrations. This workshop will start with a discussion about some familiar herbs and will explore the history and folklore of each. A short guided meditation will allow participants to attune themselves to the spirit of the plants. An exploration of the spiritual and energetic meaning of a variety of herbs will allow participants to thoughtfully choose the herbs with which to craft their own herbal charm.   Choices include an herbal dream pillow, a medicine bag, or a traditional prayer bottle.  Participants will participate in a non-denominational ritual to purify and charge it, learning the basics of ritual and how to create sacred space.

The Stories of the Trees: Magic, Myth and Medicine
Trees have always held a sense of wonder and magic in the hearts of humans and are considered sacred in many of the world’s mythologies and religions. Throughout history humans have created numerous stories and myths about these majestic spirits, as they reinforce for us the cycle of life: growth, death, and rebirth. Join folklorist and herbalist Sara Martinelli on a leisurely walk around the farm to learn how these trees have been regarded through different cultures and periods of history. You’ll learn how these trees have been used magically, spiritually and medicinally, and you’ll leave with a greater appreciation and connection to these wonderful protectors of earth. This walk is about 1 hr long. $25 per person. $100 minimum. Maximum 20 people

Herbs for Animals
Using herbs to increase health and vitality for our animal friends can be both a fulfilling and bonding experience. Nature has provided us with countless botanical allies that we can incorporate into the daily health regimen of the pets that we love, cherish, and nurture.
In this workshop, participants will learn about herbs that can be safely used to bring about health and vitality for their beloved furry friends.  Discussion will include over a dozen familiar and safe plants that can be added to your pet's wellness regiment to treat everyday ailments and issues.   Learn to use natural methods for both first aid and chronic conditions, and how to make some simple medicines in your own kitchen.
This workshop lasts about 2 hrs. $50 per person. $200 minimum. Max 12 people.

Introduction to the Tarot
Join farm owner, herbalist, and tarot reader Sara Stewart Martinelli on an introductory exploration of the Tarot. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of the deck, will explore the Major and Minor Arcana, and will be introduced to some sample card layouts.  This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. In this workshop we will cover general history and Tarot basics as well as an introduction to different Tarot spreads. Participants will have the opportunity to do practice readings and gain insight by sharing their own perceptions.
This workshop lasts about 2 hours. $50 per person. $200 minimum. Max 12 people.

Introduction to Wicca and Nature Traditions
This workshop explores modern Wicca and how the tradition follows the rhythms and cycles of nature. The class will cover the basics of Wicca, including the Wheel of the Year, Moon Magic, Herbalism, and more. Students will have the opportunity to create their own magical charm, and experience a simple charging circle. Suitable for ages 16 and up (with parental permission).
This class lasts about 2.5 - 3 hrs. $65 per person, $250 minimum, max 10 people
