Bug Bite Spray
Bug Bite Spray
I created this recipe for Blue the Horse but like always, we test all my potions on ourselves (the humans) before we give them to the animals. We found this spray to be so effective that we kept a bottle for ourselves. It really helps with the stinging and itching, and also helps to take down the swelling of a bug bite.
2 cups Apple Cider Vinegar
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 lemon peel, chopped
1/4 cup fresh peppermint, chopped
1/4 cup fresh rosemary, chopped
1/4 cup fresh plantain leaves (plantago officinalis),chopped
1/2 cup dried chamomile
1/2 cup dried calendula
10 drops tea tree essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
Begin infusion on the full moon if possible.
Put all ingredients, except for the essential oils, in a quart size mason jar and cover with the apple cider vinegar.
Allow to steep 2 weeks. Strain on the dark moon, if possible, using cheesecloth.
Compost remaining plant matter.
Add essential oils to remaining liquid.
Bottle and label.I use a bottle with a little dropper, and just drop a few drops onto the bite, allowing it to soak in.
It takes about a minute for it to stop the itching. Don't touch it while it's working.
Option: Freeze some of the liquid into a small ice tray (those new ones that make smaller cubes are perfect). Then use an ice cube on the bug bit. That works even better!
